Bromesberrow Estate lies at the southern end of the Malvern Hills overlooked by Ragged Stone Hill – hence the name of the cider, perry and also a single variety perry. It is a traditional 18th Century agricultural estate with ten small perry and cider orchards, some of which are the most ancient in Gloucestershire, which had fallen into neglect after the Second World War. Through restoration and replanting they have now been brought back into production.
In 2013 We Began to Make Cider, Perry & Wine.
The aim was to make a range of traditionally produced, lightly sparkling and refreshing drinks. The cider apples and perry pears in Ragged Stone Drinks come from orchards that have existed since the 17th Century on the Bromesberrow Estate. They fell into decline after the 2nd World War but for the past 20 years have gradually been restored and re-planted and are now back in production. In Spring 2014 we planted 200 rare, critically rare and endangered varieties of perry trees. The orchards are managed according to organic principles.
